We had a great Coaches' Academy in 2016. The following are some of the comments from attendees regarding what made it a positive experience for them:

The discussion among colleagues from different areas in the state.”  Michelle @APS

“Very interactive - enjoyed networking with colleagues. Helpful information about coaching cycle.

Resources”, Theresa

“I received valuable resources to help me become a more proficient instructional coach.”

“Variety of activities and data collection forms that I can use at my school.” , Meredith

“The activities and resources helped prepare us to provide instructional support to our teachers more effectively.”, TG

“Interaction with other professionals & learning new ways to help my teachers.”,  Haley L.

The need to have effective  instructional leaders and coaches in the schools to support and  guide teachers has only increased. But for the instructional leaders and coaches to have the greatest impact on their teachers they need to have the skills  to effectively and efficiently impart their knowledge to the teachers.

That is what the Instructional Coaches and Leaders Academy will do.  It will   give that strong teacher/coach the skills to help their colleagues also achieve a level of excellence in the classroom. And it will help other Instructional Leaders to understand how to support effective instruction

This two day academy will address topics that include:  Working with adult learners; The Coaching Cycle; Planning for Standards Based Instruction; How to give teachers useful feedback among other timely topics.

The instruction will be engaging and interactive including role-play and plan development.  Online resources will be available to registered attendees as a benefit of attending the academy.

Lead Faculty for the Academy is Cindy Nelson.

Cindy is a veteran educator with many years of experience.

She  has worked with educators across the country.  She recently completed a multi day training with a school district in the Atlanta Metro Area and is currently working with the Hawaii School District.

Cindy specializes in working with teachers to encourage their use of strategies that successfully engage struggling students in rigorous on-grade level math and language instruction. She has recently developed a series of K-10 universal screeners for mathematics that both target students for intervention and provide prescriptive data to inform that targeted instruction. It is her mission to assist all students in becoming independent thinkers and problem solvers capable and eager to assume responsibility for themselves and their world.

*Registration includes a continental breakfast, buffet  lunch and afternoon snacks each day.
